Heavy items automobiles restricted from Mombasa CBD

The Mombasa District Government has put a temporary restriction on the use of busy roads for heavy-duty vehicles during this Christmas season.

In a special notice in the Official Gazette, Taufiq Balala, Executive Officer for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, stopped heavy-duty vehicles from using the roads in the northern mainland and the Central Business District (CDB).

Balala restricted truck traffic on the roads within the two busy areas between 6:00 am and 9:30 am and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm through January 6, 2022.

Vehicles weighing 10 tons are not allowed to use Nyali Road, Fidel Odinga Road, Links Road, New Malindi-Mombasa Road within the northern mainland areas.

CBD streets include Digo Road, Moi Avenue, Nkurumah, and Nyerere Avenues.

The temporary restrictions were made necessary by an influx of motorists and visitors flocking to Coastal County to celebrate the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The measure also aims to reduce accidents by having the district government use their traffic posts on strategic roads to control the movement of vehicles.
