Professional shares ideas to assist preserve pets calm for 4th of July

MADISON (WKOW) – We’re off July 4th about a week. It’s a happy time for humans, but not so much for pets.

Experts said fireworks can scare our four-legged, furry friends.

Not all dogs are created equal. Some may be bothered by the noise, others may not.

The owner of the Serenity Pet Spa in Madison, Lis De Souza, shared her suggestions on how to keep your dog relaxed during Independence Day.

A tip starts in your kitchen.

“Just throw a pot on the floor, make some loud noises that might not be as loud as thunder or fireworks just to get them used to it [it],” She said.

After you’ve made the loud noise, it’s important not to make a big deal of it. Ignore it and leave her alone, she said.

Another tip is to get your pet somewhere they can feel safe, she said.

There are a few other things pet owners can do, such as using a thunder blanket or giving them CBD treats, but it’s important to consult a veterinarian beforehand.
