  • A growing industry: Leaf and Buds neon-accented retail space in Detroit.

This year’s April 20th was the biggest ever.

According to Headset, a data tracking company in the cannabis industry. The company says the annual Stoner Holidays saw the largest single-day cannabis sales in both the U.S. and Canada, including a $ 10.3 million day in neighboring Michigan where weed is legal. According to the company, the massive total sales represented an increase in average daily sales of + 84.5% over the last four Tuesdays in the US and a growth of + 59.9% in Canada.

As we’ve seen in the past few years, cannabis buyers changed their product preference on 04/20/21. The top three top performing categories in the US were Beverages, Groceries and Concentrates with relative sales growth of + 161.2%, + 115.7% and + 87.9% over the last four Tuesdays. In Canada, the same three vacation categories were most successful with their relative sales growth rates: Beverages: + 118.9%, Groceries: + 91.5% and Concentrates: + 87.2%.

While the 84.5% growth is impressive, the U.S. cannabis market grew 100.4% in the past four weeks in 2020, and recreational cannabis sales rose 118.6% in 2019.
